Fitness or sex, Sherlyn Chopra likes being ‘on top’! (Exclusive interview)

Fitness or sex, Sherlyn Chopra likes being 'on top'! (Exclusive interview)

by Nirmalya Dutta
My penis size is 5 inches. Will it satisfy my wife? (Sex query of the ...Today,

Sherlyn Chopra is undoubtedly one of the fittest and boldest actresses in B-town. While other actresses baulk at the thought of being pictured in bikinis (or after being pictured in them), she neither shies away from showing off or talking about her body nor worries about voicing her opinion on a variety of topics including fitness and sex. We caught up with India's only Playboy cover-girl who took time out of her busy shooting schedule to talk to us:

Q. You are one of the few Bollywood actors who are extremely comfortable with her body. How do you do it? Do you've any specific workout regime?

Fortunately, I filter my mental blocks regularly due to which I'm at great ease with my body. Fitness is my lifestyle, not a mere occasional indulgence. I thoroughly enjoy cardio and weight-training.

Q. What does a typical day's exercise routine look like? Are you into weight training? What do you have to say to people who say women shouldn't lift weights?

When I'm not shooting around the clock, I hit the gym to do 45 min of cardio and 30 min of weight training. Women can lift whatever they want to.  (Benefits of weight training for women)

Q. What do you eat all day? Do you follow any specific diet regime? What is your favourite go-to healthy snack?

I consume strictly home-made food when I'm in Mumbai. I love rich carbs such as steamed brown rice, jowar/baajra ki roti, high protein such as chicken/fish and lentil, fibre such as green salad, sprouts and fruits. My favourite snacks include ragi wafers and boiled corn. (Healthy weight loss diet)

Q. Do you think you've any problem areas? Did you've any apprehensions about doing nude scenes? Did you do anything to get camera-ready? These days we're inundated by stories about how actors go through tough regimes to get in shape for a movie – do you've any special regime?

I lead a very healthy lifestyle and I do not have problem areas on my body. But then it takes a lot of effort to maintain a slim body. It's very easy and tempting to let go. Thankfully, I have zero apprehensions about nude scenes as I know with certainty that my body looks nothing less than unadulterated art. I was asked by the makers of Kamasutra 3D to give my lean structure a toned look for which I started lifting weights. For a movie like Kamasutra 3D, one cannot afford to look less than ten on ten. And so, I've been visiting the gym with a vengeance to stay fab & fit.

Q. Do you've tips for people who suffer from body image issues?

I believe that we are the masters of our reality. Hence, we can change our reality as and when we want to with a mere shift in our thoughts and attitude. To those who suffer from body image issues, I'd like to say, 'If you want something badly, truly, deeply and madly, you can have it.' It's as simple as that.

Q. The KamaSutra was the world's oldest and most comprehensive sex manual. How is the movie related to the book? Also what other aspects of the scriptures does it cover?

Erotica is most often perceived as an easy, tantalizing sexual arousal. Kamasutra 3D which is based on Vatsyayana's Kamasutra portrays erotica as a force that compels one towards fundamental living. The film is about the journey of an Indian princess who undergoes mental, emotional, spiritual and sexual transformations while in pursuit of her husband. Like the book, the film reiterates the essence of love-making, the lack of which creates an incomparable void in one's life.

Q. There's a tendency to blame rising sex crimes on porn, Western values or skimpily clad women? What's your opinion on that?

That's perhaps the best way to divert attention from the root cause of all anti-social elements which is undoubtedly corruption.

Q. Why did we lose our liberal attitudes?

I choose to believe that we're progressing with each passing day. We're not perfect. We're not regressive either.

Q. How can we stop men from treating women like objects?

By creating constant and consistent awareness through education, art etc. and by having zero-tolerance to prejudicial behaviour.

Q. Do you think we will ever become a nation which can respect a woman's sexuality?

We're getting there.

And finally we did a survey on our site for sex positions people liked the most and they voted for woman on top, followed by rear entry or doggie style? Which is your favourite?

On the top always…

Some cool ways to make your kids listen to you

Some cool ways to make your kids listen to you
by nlakshmi

Recently I asked a group of moms, "How do you get your child to listen to you?"

Some replied, "Give consequences till he listens" and others, "Be willing to leave if she doesn't listen." Those things do work, but most of the time a parent has to add a reaction to the request in order for it to work.

Circle of Moms reader Hanan Y. wants to know, "Seriously how many times do you have to say, 'please stop' before you are pushed to the point of screaming at them."

There are many ways to help parents increase listening. However, unless a parent is clear about the intent behind their wish to be heard, no tip will work for very long.

Knowing What Your Goal Is

In order to be effective when you ask your child to listen to you, ask yourself what your goal is. Is your goal to be heard, or is it to be listened to? There is a difference.

When you want to be "heard" your main focus is on producing words to express your feelings so "you feel heard."

When you want to be heard you're not really aware, and sometimes don't care, how the other person is impacted by what you're saying. In other words, when you want to be "heard" you are focused on you.

When your goal is to get someone to do as you ask, or to "listen" to you, you unconsciously look for clues to tell you if your message is getting through. In other words your focus is on the other person.

Here are four tips to increase listening. (This works well when used with adults, too.)

1. Give Your Child Time to Switch Focus

When a person is deeply focused and concentrating on what they're doing, whether it's playing, crying, whining, fixing the car, reading or making dinner, they aren't able to immediately listen to you.

DO observe what's the other person is doing before speaking. Adults and children need a moment or two to switch from one side of the brain to the other so they can give you their undivided attention. Waiting a moment before speaking also teaches your child how you'd like them to interrupt you, too.

What if it's an emergency? When your habit is to wait before speaking or respectfully ask, "Is now a good time?" then if you ever really need their full attention during an emergency the alarming and jarring sound of your voice causes them to listen immediately since it's so different than the norm.

2. Don't Talk Over a Crying Child

Talking over a crying child to insist that they stop crying is not only fruitless; it also sends the silent message, "What I'm saying is more important than your feelings."

DO try waiting silently until the crying slows just a bit before you speak.

3. Talk Slowly, with Pauses

When a parent's words/requests are delivered with rapid intensity most children will unconsciously retreat behind the "I'm not listening barrier" to protect themselves from the onslaught.

DO try to be mindful not to emotionally overload the other person/child. Make sure you give them a moment or two to digest what you've just said before you move on to the next point.

4. Watch and Adjust Body Language

Paying attention to your child's body language is a good way to see if what your saying is getting through to them. If you're not getting through, don't blame them or make them self conscious by calling their attention to what their body is doing. Instead, adjust what you are doing.

DO make eye contact, do reach out and touch them lightly on the shoulder to create a connection, do get down to their eye level, not in their face, and do modulate your voice so your words are warm and accepting versus cold and accusing.

Being mindful of how your words impact someone places you in partnership with them and increases the possibility of listening, whether you're speaking to an adult or a child.

'Baahubali': India's answer to 'The Lord of the Rings'?

'Baahubali': India's answer to 'The Lord of the Rings'?

Adivi Sesh, who is set to start shooting for S.S. Rajamouli's Telugu period-drama 'Baahubali' on September 29 onwards, says the film will be India's answer to 'The Lord of the Rings' franchise.

"I'm really looking forward to start shooting for the film. It's being made on such a grand scale that it will undoubtedly be India's answer to 'The Lord of the Rings' franchise. I'll start shooting from September 29 and I have asked to keep aside 60 days from my calendar," Sesh told us.

Sesh, who has featured in Telugu films such as 'Karma' and 'Panja', will be featured in an important role in the film. He has been asked to gain weight for his role.

"I have been asked to gain some weight and also learn sword fighting, horseriding and some basic action skills before I join the crew. It's going to be a great experience," he added.

'Baahubali' also features Rana Daggubati, Prabhas Varma and Anusha Shetty in important roles. The film is simultaneously being made in Tamil, and will also be dubbed in Telugu.

Meanwhile, Sesh-directed Telugu romantic-comedy 'Kiss' (Keep it Simple Stupid) is slated to release on Friday.

"It's a story about two strangers from San Francisco coming together. The entire story transpires in 24 hours and that's something the audience can look forward. The film's major portion shot in the US will serve as its USP," he said.

Sesh says direction is stressful.

"It's (direction) a stressful job, but I somehow managed do it without much hassles. I'm keen on acting and I don't think I will direct again. I think I found direction easier because of the support of my brother as producer and also scriptwriter," said Sesh.

'Kiss', which also features debutante Priya Banerjee, is produced by Sai Kiran.

Beware – too much time in the office can age you faster!

Beware – too much time in the office can age you faster!
by IANS

If you are sitting all day in office and giving extra hours, you might get a good pay check but chances are that you will also get old sooner than you can imagine. According to Jill Zander, founder of the Jill Zander Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, sitting and working on a desk is directly connected to ageing. Sitting with your head bent slightly forward staring at a keyboard, laptop or iPad screen, may shorten the neck muscles and increase the gravitational pull on the jawline eventually leading to the formation of jowls, reports femalefirst.co.uk. (Top ten bizarre anti-ageing treatments)

To avoid this, it is important to keep the position of computer screens positioned in the right manner. This helps prevent a drooping jawline which can be caused by looking down too much. If you constantly lean your face on your hands in certain positions at your desk day after day, it can enhance the sleep lines that are formed if you sleep in a particular position. To avoid this you can adjust your chair height so that your forearms rest on the desk. This will make you less likely to lean on your hand and make you more aware of your sitting position. Office stress can lead to skin stress. According to a study, the stress can have damaging effect on critical DNA in the cells in the body. Because of stress the sebaceous glands also produce more oil and this can result in adult acne.

A walk for five minutes outside office can help you de-stress and it can also boost Vitamin D levels, which stimulates the production of elastin and collagen.

Khaane bhi do yaaron: Are there healthy eating options at the movie theatre?

Khaane bhi do yaaron: Are there healthy eating options at the movie theatre?

Watching a movie in a multiplex seems incomplete without a tub of popcorn and cold drink. But what you don't realise is the amount of calories you add within those two hours. Earlier people often brought something from home to munch on whilst enjoying the film. But those days are gone when you could sneak in your own snack in the theatre. Nowadays, there's no choice but to buy those overpriced snacks sold by the multiplexes. These can be very unhealthy. Nutritionist Sweta Uchil-Purohit tells us how to choose wisely when buying snacks in the theatre.

Here's a quick look at the approximate calorie count of some of the popular snack combinations sold at movie theatres:

Snacks

Calories (approx)

2 vada pav + soft drink

670 kcal

Veg burger +soft drink

530 kcal

Chicken sandwich +soft drink

460 kcal

Veg grilled sandwich + soft drink

450 kcal

2 samosas+ soft drink

440 kcal

Potato chips (small)+ soft drink

315 kcal

2 bondas + soft drink

368 kcal

Butter popcorn (tub) + soft drink

320 kcal

Caramel popcorn + soft drink

330 kcal

Nachos (1 bowl) + iced tea

405 kcal

If you look at the calories, some of the snacks have almost as many calories as an entire meal! If this leaves you wondering what to do, firstly just keep in mind that the star of the outing is the movie. The snacks and the drinks are just add-ons that contribute to 'mindless eating' (eating food without actually paying attention to what and how much is being eaten). (Read: Eating healthy at a pub, possible!)

That being said, there are ways to avoid or reduce the amount of mindless eating at the movies:

Eat a small snack/dinner before the movie: A bowl of fruits, chana chaat, home-made soup or proper meals are great to fill you up. Chances are that if you are already full, then you won't be tempted to overeat on the snacks.

Pick a snack to share: Nothing better than sharing the calories. Popcorn is always great to share – keep passing on the tub so that you end up consuming lesser calories. You can buy the smaller packets of snacks if there are less people to share with and the larger sizes if there are more.

Avoid aerated drinks: Drink water or fresh juice without sugar. Iced teas, bottled juices and aerated drinks sold at multiplexes are loaded with sugar, so avoid ordering them unless you have people to share it with.

Check if you can get made-to-order snacks: Grilled sandwich without the butter or mayo, steamed corn without the dollop of butter, plain popcorn instead of the cheese or caramel flavours, lime juice with 2 tsp sugar (or a dash of salt), fruit chaat without the honey, cream or sugar are all tricks to reduce the number of calories.

Recommended snacks

Calories(approx)

Steamed corn (no butter) 1 cup

130

Grilled tomato sandwich (no butter/mayo)

170

Plain popcorn (1 cup)

64

Lime juice (2 tsp sugar)

60

Fruit chaat (no sugar/honey)

100

Plain nachos (4-6 nachos) +salsa

135

Choose the lesser evil: In case you are left with no choice, then pick the snack with the least number of calories and share it.

Even though Bollywood movies are longer and last up to two-and-a-half to a good three hours, just remember that nobody has till date starved to death at the theatre. You can always grab a healthy bite after the movie.

Threading, waxing or bleaching? Which is the best way to get rid of unwanted facial hair? (Beauty query of the day)

Threading, waxing or bleaching? Which is the best way to get rid of unwanted facial hair? (Beauty query of the day)

I am a 20-year-old girl and I have a beauty problem. I have unwanted hair growth on my face and since it is a delicate area, I am not sure what is the right way to get rid of it. Can you please suggest?

Unwanted facial hair growth can be quite troublesome. However, there are various ways in which you can tackle this problem. Here are some options:

Bleaching

Although bleaching is not a hair removal method, it changes the colour of the hair which helps in camouflaging it. It involves applying a paste on the face and keeping it for 10-15 minutes and then washing it off. Once this is done, the hair colour matches your skin tone, making it unnoticeable. This method is effective as the colour stays for weeks. You can buy a kit and do it yourself at home or get it done at a beauty parlour which will be slightly expensive. Do not over-do it or expose your skin to the sun after bleaching at least for an hour and even when you do, apply ample sunscreen before you step out. Stay away from harsh bleaches especially if you have sensitive skin. but if you have a very thick growth then bleaching won't help.

Waxing

Many beauty salons offer special waxes like chocolate or mango wax for facial hair removal. Apparently, the growth is prolonged and leaves your skin feeling smooth after the session. While waxing does remove hair from the root, one should note that the skin on the face is very delicate and thin, and regular pulling will result in loose skin, especially the area around the mouth. So if possible, don't opt for this method for the face. (Read: Shaving or waxing: which is a better choice to remove hair?)

Threading

Threading is done with the help of a thread where the hair is pulled out by a criss-cross movement, cutting it out just like a scissor would cut cloth. Many find this method quite painful, leaving their skin red for quite some time. If you opt for this method, remember you will have to undergo the pain every few days – since the hair isn't pulled out from the root, it grows back faster. Also, constant threading on the face can leave marks on the cheeks.

Apart from these three, there are other options as well which can help solve your problem. They are:

Laser

Laser hair reduction is also a good option and a near permanent solution. It requires a few number of sittings as per your hair growth. Though it can be slightly expensive, it reduces and prolongs the growth and makes the hair finer in appearance which makes it a worthwhile treatment. (Read: Laser hair reduction – all you need to know)

Hair removal creams

These days, DIY hair removal creams are quite popular. You can choose a mild one to remove facial hair. Again, it is best to go for creams which are specially made for facial hair removal than a generic one. Keep the usage to once a month to avoid any side-effects and if you feel it is too strong for your skin then discontinue its use.

Home remedies

There are various ingredients easily available in your kitchen which you can make use of to reduce the growth on your face. The only hitch is, it takes time for the results to show and you need to regularly stick to the opted treatment be it the use of a sugar mix, egg mask or turmeric. (Read: Home remedies to get rid of facial hair)

While using a razor to shave one's body hair is a common practice amongst women, it should not be an option when it comes to the removal of facial hair as it will result in faster and harder hair growth which will be even more difficult to get rid of. A good idea is to try a few of the mentioned options and then decide which one is better suited for your skin and face.

A Humorous Look at Some Marital Issues

A Humorous Look at Some Marital Issues
By Mark Sherman, Ph.D.

Before beginning this brief discussion of marriage, I have to make a couple of disclaimers. First, none of what I say here necessarily has anything to do with my own marriage, which is as close to perfect as any could be. Second, I am not a therapist or couples counselor. Most of what I say here is based on informed speculation, and watching movies and television.

Right at the outset, I do want to say this: If you have an issue in your marriage, the chances are you are not the only one. One of the problems we have is that we don't see other couples in the privacy of their own homes, and when they are with us, say at dinner, they rarely reveal what's really going on in their relationships. Don't let this fool you. Marriage can best be described as a permanent truce.

So what are some issues that crop up in marriages? Keep in mind that I am primarily thinking here of long-term ones. (And heterosexual ones. As little as I know about those, I know even less about same-sex marriages.)

1. Husbands will eventually say that if it were not for their wives, they would have become more successful in their work, or would have pursued some other career path entirely. This other path typically involves music or writing. Virtually every man believes that he had the potential to be a rock star or a famous writer if only his wife had truly believed in him.

Wives will say that their husbands had unrealistic expectations of what success in music or writing entails, and besides, they will say, if they are being truly honest, "He really wasn't that great in his music (or his writing), but I just didn't have the heart to tell him."

2. Most couples who have been married for more than 40 years are rarely, if ever, having sex. This should be welcome news to their children, who would rather not think about this anyhow.

3. She has a whole movement behind her which says that the patriarchy is responsible for most of her problems (not to mention all the problems of the world). This can cause major difficulties in marital fights because he feels he is arguing not just with her, but with three billion other women, many of whom are with men far inferior to him, and thus even angrier than she is.

Betty Friedan let the cat out of the bag in 1963 with The Feminine Mystique. Her preface opens with "Gradually, without seeing it clearly for quite a while, I came to realize that something is very wrong with the way American women are trying to live their lives today." And the title of her first chapter became perhaps the most famous phrase in the book, "The Problem That Has No Name."

Although TFM was not an outright attack on men, it certainly didn't put them in a particularly good light. Divorces became more and more common, and, in fact, Friedan and her husband divorced in 1969. Obviously, if she had been really happy in her marriage, there would have been no book and no women's movement, and couples today would be happy every minute.

And, of course, it means that lesbian couples are happy every minute.

4. She doesn't like air conditioning as much as he does. The solution here is the same one that you should use in most marital differences. Agree that you will both be less comfortable than you want to be. The essence of marriage is compromise—unsatisfying, annoying, never fully comfortable, often infuriating compromise.

5. Listen, guys, do not try to discuss with your wife the extramarital goings on of public figures, such as politicians like Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Anthony Wiener, and on and on. (Same goes for that fictional Lothario, Don Draper of "Mad Men.") Of course, it is tempting to do so. After all, your wife is your best friend. But sooner or later the conversation will devolve into questions of "Can't men control themselves?" and you will say something like, "Well, the women weren't innocent victims here. They can be seductive, you know."

You are both in a no-win situation here. Most men will eventually cave by saying they agree with their wives that any man who strays is a terrible person. But his wife will know he's not being genuine, and she'll say, "You don't really feel that way, do you?"

Which leads to my final point, #6.

6. In a marriage, never say, "You don't really feel that way do you?" Of course, your spouse doesn't really feel that way. You're in a marriage, not in a court of law. You promised to love, honor, and cherish, not to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but. As long as you can honestly say you love your partner, you're in business.

And then you can truly experience the endlessly frustrating and never fully satisfying joys of a wonderful lifelong partnership.

All kidding aside, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

To ten thousand rupees for a night? ஓர் இரவுக்குப் பத்தாயிரம் ரூபாய் வேண்டுமா? Tamil Short Story

Sensex recovers after morning crash, ends 28 pts higher

After plunging 519 points in early trade, the Sensex on Wednesday made a smart recovery to close 28.07 points higher at 17,996.15 supported by strength in IT, metal and pharma stocks despite the rupee hitting new all-time low.
Surging oil prices on back of heightened geopolitical tension over possible US-led coalition attack on Syria and a sinking rupee cast shadow on the stock market today with the Sensex plummeting to 17,448.71 in the early stages of trade.
However, a wave of value-buying led by institutional investors like LIC and mutual funds helped stock markets recover even as FIIs dumped bluechip stocks, brokers said.
Stocks also recovered as investors covered their pending long positions created in the recent bear-run ahead of the monthly derivatives contract expiry on Thursday, they added.

End dirty affair with garbage

Do we have a dirty city because we have a throwaway ethic, or is it because our government is not efficient enough to handle the waste generated by a fast-growing metropolis? It would appear to be a mix of both.
There is little doubt that a lot of waste could have fresh life in some other form and can be kept out of Chennai’s garbage bins, with sufficient commitment from citizens. As these columns have highlighted over several days now, mixing waste of different kinds and sending it to the dump sites where it is mostly burnt only creates problems for suburban residents.
Toxic fumes are released into the air, and a lot of harmful chemicals leach into the groundwater, while the area used to dump mountains of trash is constantly growing.

Gold scales to eight-month high at Rs 31,525

Gold prices took another jump of Rs. 515 to scale an eight-month high of Rs. 31,525 per ten gram in New Delhi on Saturday on sustained buying by stockists and investors.
After its biggest single day rise in two years on Friday, the precious metal advanced to a level last seen on December 18, 2012 due to tumbling rupee and stocks.
The rally in precious metals sparked after rupee plunged to all-time low of 61.65 against American currency, raising fears the dollar-denominated metal would become costlier and restrict supply into the market after the RBI prohibited inward shipment of gold coins.
Investors rushing to bullion as a safe haven following free fall in equities and Forex further influenced the market sentiment. Firming global trend was another positive factor for the precious metals.
